For this album artwork commission, I was engaged to create a conceptually rich and visually dynamic cover and CD packaging. The artist’s vision centered on illustrating both male and female gods, weaving mythology into a modern graphic design narrative. My role was to translate these symbolic themes into a cohesive visual identity that resonated with the music’s tone while maintaining aesthetic appeal for both print and digital platforms.

Research & Concept Development

• Iconographic Research: Conducted in-depth study on the meanings, attributes, and cultural symbolism of the selected deities to ensure authenticity and conceptual accuracy.

• Mood Board & Sketch Ideation: Compiled visual references to explore compositional possibilities, symbolism, and visual metaphors. Created initial pencil sketches to map out figure placement, narrative flow, and spatial balance.

• Conceptual Alignment: Collaborated with the artist to refine the design direction, ensuring the iconography aligned with the thematic elements of the album’s content.

Design Process

• Illustration & Digital Rendering: Transitioned sketches into digital form, using Photoshop to build layered compositions. Applied blending modes, digital brushwork, and color grading to achieve depth and contrast.

• Typography & Layout Integration: Explored font pairings and typographic placement that complemented the mystical theme while ensuring legibility across both cover and packaging.

• Packaging Design: Extended the artwork into CD panels and inserts, balancing continuity of the central theme with usability and functional layout for track listings and credits.

Outcome

The final album artwork successfully fused mythology with contemporary digital design, producing a compelling visual identity that elevated the music’s narrative. The artist praised the depth of research, attention to symbolic detail, and execution of a design that was both visually striking and thematically resonant. This project highlighted my ability to merge research-driven conceptual design with technical proficiency in illustration and digital composition.
